Job Opportunity: Research Consultancy with the Central America Women’s Network

The Central America Women’s Network is looking for a consultant to prepare a research report that presents an analysis of the main theoretical discussions and feminist debates about patriarchy, gender relations and violence and the links to poverty within the current economic system.

There are a number of theoretical positions and analytical frameworks that have been developed by academics, feminist thinkers and NGO practitioners on gender and women’s rights. CAWN would like to review the main texts and investigate new thinking in the debate on patriarchy and violence against women in relation to women’s human rights and the links to poverty, with special reference to Latin America. This theoretical framework will be a useful tool for CAWN in its analysis of gender-based violence in Central America and to link these debates to the practical findings on the ground through its partner’s project results.

The following are some of the key issues that should be investigated in a desk review of existing literature:

Discrimination against women
Violence as a form of gender
Relations and links to violence
Analysis of gender relations as power
Patriarchy and structural violence
Poverty as a contributor to violence
