Event: Women Refugees’ Take the Picture, Manchester

30Mar09

Manchester Town Hall is currently displaying a series of pictures taken by 20 refugee women in the area who were asked to take pictures of things that inspired them and gave them strength to carry on in adversity. The Manchester Evening News report

Antonia Dunn, of the British Red Cross, said: “The group of women come from nine countries across the world, including Somalia and Afghanistan.

“They have been able to learn new creative skills to help them express who they are and where they come from. “This has been a fantastic project, which has inspired our women to focus on strength.”

The exhibition was organised by the Red Cross Women’s Integration Support Project, launched in 2001 to help asylum-seeking women to adjust to life in Britain through training, ESOIL classes and social interaction in a supportive group at which young children are welcome and catered for.
