Contribute: Documentary Filmmakers Group Need Women’s Stories

A letter from the Documentary Filmmakers Group

I am writing to ask for your help in raising awareness of the need to tackle violence against women.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has asked the Documentary Filmmakers Group to prepare a series of short films on violence against women, including sexual and domestic violence.

This series includes a film that will speak specifically to women who may be experiencing violence, or suffering the effects of past violence. It is intended to be an inspiring film, in which women survivors share their own experiences of escaping and dealing with the effects of violence. Our hope is that it will encourage other women to access the support they need.

As part of our research for this film, I am really keen to speak to women who have been affected by violence, in order to find out more about their experiences, and what they think should be in the film.

If you have been affected by violence, and would be willing to talk about your experiences with me, then please do get in touch. Just a 10 minute phone conversation would be really valuable. Your confidentiality is guaranteed, and I want to stress that we are just researching the film at this stage so nothing would be recorded.

Any help you can give us would be very much appreciated, and I am happy to answer any questions you might have. As we are working to a rather tight deadline, I would really appreciate it if you could contact me this week, if at all possible.

Thank you, Jenny Saunders
